Classifieds & Noticeboard

Small ads and notices your own visitors put up — no seller accounts, no commission, no checkout, and every ad comes down on its own.

Version 1.3.0 is finished, released and submitted to the Wix App Market. It is with Wix’s review, so there is no install link on this page yet — one goes up the moment the listing is live.

  • Nobody registers
  • Ads run out on their own
  • No commission
  • No badge, ever

The gap it closes

What a club, a church, a school or an estate actually wants is a pin-board, and what this market sells them is a marketplace engine. Twenty phrases a buyer types were run against the App Market before a line of this was written. classifieds returned no cards whatsoever — the third time in this fleet’s history that the market’s own padding has given up on a phrase. noticeboard, notice board, bulletin board, community board, buy and sell, small ads, lost and found, swap shop, free stuff, wanted ads, community notices, member ads, adverts, items for sale and jumble sale returned nothing real at all. for sale reported seven and every one was a word inside another word: Syncee for Suppliers, Quizell Product Quiz & Form, Avalara Extractor for Returns.

Four of the five apps a buyer is actually shown have no free plan whatsoever, and the fifth caps free at three postings. Multi Vendor Marketplace: $13.99 → $62.95 a month, ten sellers → unlimited, with “TAT 24hrs” and “TAT 12hrs” — support turnaround — as tier bullets. Multi Vendor Store: $9.78 → $58.74, Premium site required, 7 sellers → 1,000. Auction Store: $9.78, and it needs a shop underneath it. POWR’s Job Board: three postings free, then “Remove POWR Branding — Remove the POWR logo from your Job Board app.”

And the reviews say what the engine costs. The seller accounts: “the Seller username is not intuitive and the email providing the same goes into SPAM” · “the Seller does not have a user friendly option to change their own username and password” · “when vendors sign up to your marketplace, the form doesn’t even ask for a first and last name … all the personal details of your vendor lands on their vendor page” (3👍) · “Support is too slow, until now my email configuration still doesn’t work … I cannot proceed with accepting Seller”.

The uploads: “Users can only upload one small photo at a time. If the file is too big it deletes the entire posting and starts over. If they want to upload more than one photo then admin has to do it for them. If users edit any part of a listing it deactivates the listing on the site and the admin has to fix it.” — 4👍, and the most-voted craft complaint on the shelf.

And the payments: “It does not distribute payments, it does not notify sellers properly of orders, the backend is buggy and limited” (2👍) · “Cant not set commission different for vendor” · “CLUNKY … creates a heck of a lot of work for the site owner. I could have done this through my website myself rather than pay for an app.” Next door on the board shelf: “App only works on 1 page, the page generated to use the app instead of the page you want?” and “the job board only loads after 30-40 seconds on the website.”

How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

  1. 01

Put a board on any page

Drag it in from Add Elements → App Widgets, as many times as you like. Sections in your own words — For sale, Wanted, Free to a good home, Lost & found, Notices — and four arrangements: the noticeboard index, cards, a list, and a compact one for a sidebar. Pin one placement to a single section and it shows only that.

  2. 02

Let people actually put an ad up

Somebody types a name and puts an ad up: a title, the details, a price in their own words, where it is, and how to reach them. No account, no password, no confirmation mail, no seller profile. If you would rather only signed-in members posted, that is one setting, and it can differ section by section.

  3. 03

Read it first, and let it come down on its own

Publish straight away, hold a person’s first ad, or read everything before it appears — all free. Every ad runs for as long as you choose and then comes down by itself, so nobody has to clear the board. Nothing is swept overnight: when an ad comes down is worked out the moment somebody reads it.

How it behaves

The decisions that matter.

  • No cap on ads, sections or placements, on any plan

Not on the free plan, not on any plan. The one app on this shelf with a real free tier stops at three postings; there is no number here you can exceed.

  • No watermark and no badge, on any plan, ever

Not on the page, not in the editor. POWR charges $6.98 a month and one of the things it sells for that is taking its own logo off your website.

  • Nobody has to register to put an ad up

A name, and the ad is up. No account, no password, no confirmation email, no seller profile, nothing to configure. The whole cluster of complaints next door is a registration system nobody can keep running.

  • It never takes a payment and never takes a cut

No cart, no order, no commission, no payout, no checkout and no shop underneath it. An ad says £40 and the two people sort it out between themselves, exactly as they would at the village hall.

  • No upload ever reaches this app

A picture is a web address you paste — from your own media library or anywhere else — checked to be http or https before it is stored. A refused address costs the picture, never the ad. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, nothing can eat a posting halfway through.

  • Contact details stay out of the page

A board read carries no contact detail at all — not blanked, absent. One is fetched for a single ad, by name, only when a reader presses Show contact. And there is a stricter setting: keep them in your dashboard, and no contact detail is ever sent to a page at all, by any request. That one is a guarantee; the first is an obstacle, and the app says so in those words.

  • Ads come down on their own

Thirty days, fourteen, seven, or until somebody takes it down — per board and per ad. There is no scheduled job anywhere in this app to fail overnight: when an ad comes down is arithmetic done at the moment somebody reads it, so changing the run changes the whole board at once.

  • The whole moderation queue is free

Read everything before it appears, hold a new person’s first ad, or publish straight away. Approve, hold, edit, pin, move between sections, mark taken, delete. A spam filter runs on every plan, is arithmetic on the text itself, and phones nobody.

  • It never sends an email to anybody

Not to you, not to a poster, not on a new ad. There is no mail engine here to misfire — which is why no email configuration can stop working and leave you unable to accept anything.

  • It creates no pages and no members area

An ad opens in place, on the page it is already on, at a readable address built from its own title. Nothing is added to your menu, no page is generated, and nobody is made to join anything.

  • One request per placement

Measured on a published page: exactly one call brings the whole board down, and then zero more for searching, filtering by section or place, or changing the order. Opening an ad costs one more; asking for a contact costs one more, for that ad alone.

  • Your board is your own data

Every ad is an ordinary row in your own site’s content manager, exportable to a spreadsheet at any time, on any plan. Ads that have run out are kept, not deleted.

  • It reads on a dark site

The default paints no background of its own and takes its text colour from your page, so it is legible on white and on black without choosing anything.

  • It reads on a phone

Measured at 390 pixels on a published page: one column, no horizontal scrolling on the page or in the widget, the price under the title where a printed small ad puts it, and the thumbnail narrowed to suit.

Pricing

Free tier that actually works.

Billed per site through the Wix App Market, monthly or yearly (yearly saves 20%). Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. The free plan is deliberately functional and never expires, so the app can prove itself on a real site before you pay for it.

Free

$0

One noticeboard with no cap on ads, sections or placements. Anybody can post with a name, or only signed-in members, per section. The whole moderation queue — read everything first, hold a person’s first ad, approve, hold, edit, pin, move, mark taken, delete — plus the spam filter, search across every field, section and place filters, a price in the poster’s own words, a picture by address, contact details kept out of the page, ads that run out on their own, a readable address per ad, structured data, CSV export, all four arrangements and every design control. No watermark and no badge, ever.

Pro

$9.99/mo

or $95.88/yr

Several noticeboards on one site, one per page; sections only signed-in members can see; tags on ads with filter chips for readers; and your own blocked-word list with a web-address guard.

Business

$19.99/mo

or $191.88/yr

Everything in Pro, plus bringing a whole board in from a spreadsheet, how many times each ad was opened with most-opened ordering, putting an ad that ran out back up, and a record of every decision made on the board.

Documentation & data handling

Everything it touches, stated plainly.

Installing & getting started

  1. Add Classifieds & Noticeboard to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
  2. Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Noticeboard element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Dashboard page.
  3. Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers one noticeboard with no cap on ads, sections or placements. No watermark and no badge, ever., so you can prove it works before paying.

What is stored, and where

  • Your board — every ad, section, wording and design choice — is stored in collections inside your own site, and is exportable to a CSV at any time on any plan.
  • Somebody who puts an ad up gives a name, the ad itself, and how they would like to be contacted. That is all that is stored. No account is made and nothing is written to their device.
  • A contact detail is never included in the read that draws the board. On the default setting it is fetched for one ad at a time, only when a reader presses Show contact — an obstacle to anybody harvesting a page, not encryption. On the stricter setting it is never sent to a page at all, and there is no request that will produce one.
  • No picture is ever uploaded. A picture is a web address the poster typed, checked to be http or https, and drawn with no referrer sent to whoever is hosting it.
  • Nothing is sent to anybody by email, ever. There is no mail server in this app.
  • The spam filter is arithmetic on the text itself, inside your own site. No ad is sent to a third-party service to be scored.
  • On Business, an opening is one row saying an ad was opened — no visitor identifier of any kind.
  • Uninstalling removes the app’s collections. Nothing else on your site is touched.

Questions people ask.

Do people have to make an account to put an ad up?

No. Somebody types a name and the ad is up — no account, no password, no confirmation email, no seller profile. You can require signed-in members instead, per board and per section, and a section can be set so that only you post and everybody reads.

Does it take payments or a commission?

Never. There is no cart, no order, no checkout, no commission and no payout anywhere in this app, and it does not need a shop underneath it. An ad says what the thing costs in the poster’s own words and the two people sort it out between themselves.

How do pictures work if nothing is uploaded?

A picture is a web address you paste — copy it from your own media library, or use one that is already on the web. It is checked to be http or https before it is stored, and a refused address costs the picture rather than the whole ad. Nothing is ever uploaded into this app, so nothing can eat a posting halfway through.

Will strangers be able to harvest the email addresses on my board?

Not from the board. A board read carries no contact detail at all, so saving the page gets you nothing. On the default setting one is fetched for a single ad, by name, when a reader presses Show contact — which is an obstacle rather than encryption, and the app says so. If you want a guarantee, switch contacts to “kept in the dashboard”: then no contact detail is sent to a page at all, by any request, and you pass them on yourself.

Do old ads pile up?

No. Every ad runs for as long as you choose — thirty days, fourteen, seven, or until it is taken down — and comes down by itself. Nothing is swept overnight: when an ad comes down is worked out the moment somebody reads it, so if you change the run it applies to the whole board at once. Ads that have run out are kept, not deleted.

Can I read ads before they go up?

Yes, and it is free. Choose publish straight away, hold the first ad from a new name, or hold everything until you have read it. A spam filter runs on every plan and sends nothing to anybody to be scored.

How do I write a price if it is not a number?

Write it however you like: £40, £40 ono, Free to a good home, Offers around £2,500, Swap for a bike, €60 inkl. MwSt. It is drawn back exactly as you typed it, and never converted or reformatted. A cheapest-first order reads a number out of it where there is one and puts everything else after it, which is right for “offers around” and for “swap”.

Is there a watermark or a badge on the free plan?

No, and there is none on any plan, ever. POWR charges $6.98 a month and one of the things it sells for that is taking its own logo off your website.

Can I keep a section just for the committee?

Yes, two ways, and the first is free. A section can be set so that only you post and everybody reads — the parish notices. And on Pro, a section can be held to signed-in members, which keeps it out of the board for anybody else.

What happens if I stop paying?

Reading the board and putting an ad on it are free on every plan, including one that has lapsed — the two promises have nowhere in their code to put a plan at all. A members-only section stops being held back rather than disappearing, and the dashboard says which.

What happens if I stop using the app?

Your board is ordinary rows in your own site’s data — visible in your content manager and exportable to a CSV at any time, on any plan. Uninstalling removes the app’s collections and touches nothing else.

Does it work on Wix Studio?

Yes. It is a custom element, so it runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony — the same app and the same settings panel. It was built and verified on a published Wix Studio page.
