Document Request & File Upload
Ask each client for the documents you need, and watch them arrive against a checklist with their name on it — with no cap on anything, because nothing is stored by the app.
- No caps, ever
- Straight to your site
- No badge, ever
- One request a page
The gap it closes
Everything on this shelf fails at the same job, and three different apps’ reviewers describe it in the same words. The 4.0★/61 leader, four years old: “Files say they are uploaded but are missing. I am very tech savvy and not a fan of scripted customer service” (2 votes) · “Files are missing. Again.” · “It just spins. I can’t access it and neither can my customers” (2). The 3.0★/9 one: “Responses are nowhere to be found! I installed this app to create a file upload form. However, I couldn’t find a single element that enables me to view the form submissions.” The 2.5★/5 one: “how does this work? I can’t find the files to my customers, could you please explain how it works?” An app that collects files and then loses them is the whole category.
Seven rivals’ own plan JSON was read on build day, and every one of them sells the same thing: room. The leader charges $5.58 → $11.18 → $13.98 → $40.57 a month, and the ladder is a file size — 100 MB, 500 MB, 2 GB. The biggest app in the neighbourhood, at 4.7★ over 5,744 reviews, cannot receive a file attachment at all on its free or its $8.38 tier: “Receive File Attachments” is $18.17 a month at 10 MB and $27.97 at 100 MB. One is a storage bill from $26.58 to $418.34 a month. Another charges $20.99 for twenty uploads a week.
Four of the seven have no free plan whatsoever, and the three that do ration the thing the app is. Three uploads a month. Three requests ever — and its own Pro bullet describes its free plan for us: “Basic includes 3 requests in total, 1 open at a time — a taste, not a plan.” Two sell design control by name: the leader’s “Customizable upload button” is a bullet on every paid tier and on none that is free, because there is none.
And the app’s own name is a $68.56-a-month feature two doors down. “Outbound Forms & Documents — Request documents from existing clients” and “Reminders and Follow Up Actions” are both on a Professional tier at $68.56 a month — eight hundred dollars a year for asking somebody for a document and then reminding them.
So nothing here is priced on volume, because there is no volume to price. No cap on requests, no cap on documents, no cap on files, no ceiling on file size, on any plan. Receiving a document is free for ever — including on a lapsed plan, which is enforced in the code by a function that has no parameter for a plan and a test that reads its source. A subscription that ends will never be the reason a client’s file does not arrive.
How it works
Six steps, then it runs itself.
- 01
Say what you are asking for
A checklist — Photo ID, Proof of address, Signed agreement — each with a line of explanation and a mark saying whether it is needed or optional. A new install starts with four sensible ones you rename in a minute.
- 02
Make a request for one client, or open the desk to everybody
Name the client, set a date it is needed by, add a short code if it is sensitive, and you get a link to send them however you already talk to them. Or leave the desk open and anybody on the page can send you things against the same checklist.
- 03
They drop the files in
No account, no sign-up, no app to install. Each document has its own drop area, the page says what is in and what is still wanted, and they can close the tab and come back to it later.
- 04
The files land in your own storage, not ours
Straight from their browser into your own site’s private storage, in a folder named for that client, under a name that says whose it is and what it was asked for — Okonkwo & Partners — Photo ID — passport.pdf. Not one byte passes through this app.
- 05
You see exactly who has sent what
One line per client: how many of the documents are in, what is still outstanding, and how many days late they are. Open any document from your dashboard in a click.
- 06
And you chase the ones who have not
On Pro, a list of everybody past their date with exactly what is missing, and a message already written with their own link in it — ready to paste into your own email, from your own address.
How it behaves
The decisions that matter.
-
Receiving a document is free for ever, on every plan
Including a lapsed one. It is not a policy, it is a function with no parameter for a plan and a test that reads its own source to keep it that way. Every rival on this shelf would turn your client away: three uploads a month, three requests ever, ten megabytes, twenty a week.
-
Not one byte of a document passes through this app
The server mints a signed, one-shot address and the file goes straight from your client’s browser into your own site’s storage. There is nothing of ours holding anything of yours, which is also why there is no room to sell you.
-
Your clients’ documents have no public address at all
Not even an unlisted one. Every file is stored private, so the only way to open one is from your own dashboard, as your site’s own staff. Uninstall the app tomorrow and the documents are exactly where they were.
-
No badge and no watermark on any plan, ever
Not on the page, not in the editor, not on a lapsed plan. Two of the seven apps read on build day sell design control itself, and the leader’s free plan does not exist.
-
It never sends anybody an email
No mail engine of ours to fail, no address of ours to land in a spam folder. The chase message goes from you, off an address your client already recognises. That is deliberate: the mail engine is what breaks on the apps next door.
-
Nothing that is free today will ever move behind the paywall
Stated here and in the App Market listing. The free plan is the pitch, not a trial.
Pricing
Free tier that actually works.
Billed per site through the Wix App Market, monthly or yearly (yearly saves 20%). Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. The free plan is deliberately functional and never expires, so the app can prove itself on a real site before you pay for it.

Installing & getting started
- Add Document Request & File Upload to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
- Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Document request element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Settings panel in the editor, per placement / Dashboard page.
- Follow the six steps above. The free tier covers no cap on requests, documents, files or file size. Named requests with their own private link, a code on any link, due dates, overdue marking and live status per document. All three arrangements and every design control. Every visitor-facing word editable. Files straight into your own site’s private storage, one request per placement. No watermark and no badge, ever, so you can prove it works before paying.
- Stuck? Email support@buildsbyluke.com — two business days response.
Permissions, and why each one
SCOPE.DEV_CENTER.APP-INSTANCE-READ-BASIC-INFO- Read which plan the site is on, so Pro and Business features unlock.
SCOPE.DC-MEDIA.MANAGE-MEDIAMANAGER- Put each document a client sends into the site owner’s own media library, private, in a folder named for that client — and mint the short-lived link the owner opens it with. This is the permission that makes the app’s central promise possible: without it, the files would have to be held by us.
What is stored, and where
- Documents are never held by this app. The server mints a signed, one-shot upload address and the file travels from the visitor’s browser straight into the site owner’s own media library, marked private. What this app keeps is a reference: the file id, its name, its size, its type and when it arrived.
- A private file has no public address — not even an unlisted one. The site owner opens each document from their dashboard over a link minted on the press and valid for ten minutes.
- Each request holds the client’s name, an email address if the site owner asked for one, and whatever the sender typed in a message box. It never holds a home address, a date of birth or a payment detail; there is nowhere in the app to put one. The site owner is the controller of it.
- Every row lives in a collection inside the site owner’s own site, readable and writable only by that site’s own staff. A visitor never touches the data directly — the widget talks only to this app’s own API, which answers with what that one request is allowed to see and nothing else.
- A request link is a long random token, and the site owner can add a code on top of it. A locked request gives up nothing at all — not even the name on it — until the code is given.
- Nothing whatsoever is stored about a visitor: no cookie, no identifier, no session and no IP address. The optional record of activity is a line saying what happened and when, never who was there, and the dashboard says so in those words.
- This app never sends an email, never takes a payment, and never asks a client to create an account.
- Nothing is loaded from any third party: no script, no tracker, no font and no icon set.
- Uninstalling removes the app’s collections. The documents themselves stay exactly where they are, in the site owner’s own media library.

Questions people ask.
Where do the files actually go?
Into your own site’s media library, private, in a folder named for that client. They go straight there from your client’s browser — not one byte passes through this app — and they are stored under a name that says whose they are and what they were asked for. If you uninstall this app tomorrow, every document is exactly where it was.
Can anybody else get at them?
No. Every document is stored private, which means it has no public address at all — not even an unlisted one that somebody could be sent. The only way to open one is from your dashboard, as your site’s own staff, over a link this app mints on the press and which expires in ten minutes.
How many requests can I make on the free plan?
As many as you like. There is no cap on requests, documents, files or file size on any plan — the only ceiling is your own site’s storage, which you already pay for. The apps this one replaces stop at three uploads a month, or three requests ever, or ten megabytes a file.
What happens if I stop paying?
Documents keep arriving. That is the one thing this app will never gate: a client sending a passport to their accountant must not be turned away because the accountant’s card expired. Your requests, your checklists and your files all stay; the Pro and Business features stop, and nothing of yours is deleted or held back.
Does my client need an account?
No. They open the link you send, drop their files in and press a button. No sign-up, no password, nothing to install, and nothing stored about them.
Will it email my client to remind them?
No, and that is deliberate. This app has no mail engine at all — so there is nothing of ours to fail, and nothing of ours to land in a spam folder. On Pro it shows you exactly who is late and what they are missing, and writes the chase message for you with their link in it. You paste it, and it arrives from you.
How is this different from a contact form with an upload field?
A form takes one submission and is finished. This is a named checklist per client that you track until it is complete: you always know who has sent what, who has sent nothing, what is still outstanding and how late it is. And on the biggest form app on the shelf, receiving a file at all starts at $18.17 a month.
How is it different from your Downloads library or your Client Portal?
Direction. Downloads & Document Library and Client Portal & File Delivery send files out — you publishing things your visitors or clients can take. This one takes files in — you asking for things you have not got yet, and tracking them until you have.
Can I say which file types I will accept?
On Business, per document — which types, how large and how many. Until then every document takes anything your site’s media library will take, with no limit, which is the more permissive default. The app next door has a one-star review that is nothing but “No support for STL or 3MF Files”.
Is there a watermark on the free plan?
No, and there is none on any plan, ever. Two of the seven apps read on build day sell design control by name, and the biggest one has no free plan at all.
Does it work on Wix Studio?
Yes. It is a custom element, so it runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony — the same app and the same settings panel. Verified by placing it on a Wix Studio site and sending a real document through the published Studio page, and again on a published classic Wix page.
What does it ask permission for?
Two things. Which plan your site is on, so the paid features unlock — and your media library, because that is where your clients’ documents go. The second one is what makes the whole promise possible: without it, we would have to hold your files ourselves, and then we would have room to sell you.
Put Document Request & File Upload on your site.
Add it, use the free plan on a real site, and only pay once it has earned it.
