The gap it closes
News Ticker sits at 3.3★ across 144 reviews in a two-app category — the other one is 1.9★. Its most-voted review is about money: “Snuck a fee in after 2 years and tried to pretend like their watermark was always in my ticker… I would NEVER have picked something with a fee.” Another owner found the free plan’s three items were really two, because “the third free news item has to be their branding.”
Then the shape. Four separate reviews say the same thing: “The box size cannot be adjusted to replicate a REAL TICKER the way they look on the news. The box is huge and will not adjust to a real ticker size. THIN THIN that’s a real ticker, not a 4 inch high box”, “you can’t reduce the size of the banner — it’s huge and horrible”, “there is no way to resize the height of the ticker”, “it’s not resizeable small enough to avoid the top menu being covered.”
And underneath, the largest cluster of all is not about the ticker but about the site: “Should a new ticker hang the web site loading in a browser for ten plus minutes?”, “Widget does not load, crashes many times”, “It freezes, stalls our website and every program our computers.” Plus the one every owner mentions eventually: “in order to update news you need to get inside the editor — it should be at least possible to update by dashboard.”

Write the update
Only the headline is required. Add a label such as BREAKING in any colour, a link to a page of yours or anywhere else, a small picture, and the time it was posted. There is no character limit — a longer headline simply takes a little longer to go past.

Choose the shape
A scrolling bar, one headline at a time fading, one rolling up from below, or a still list for a sidebar. Set the height in pixels: 28 is a real news ticker, 44 is comfortable. Every colour, the speed, the separator and the spacing are yours, on the free plan.

Put it on any page
Drag the element in as many times as you like, and give each placement its own arrangement, colour or height from its settings panel — a bar across the top here, the same headlines as a still list in a sidebar there. It runs in Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony.

No cap on updates, on the free plan
Not three, not ten — no number at all. The app this replaces caps its free plan at three, and one of its own reviews points out that the third one is its advertisement.

A bar as thin as 28 pixels
The height is a number you type, from 20 pixels up, and the bar is drawn at exactly that. On your published page the element is exactly as tall as the bar, so there is nothing left over to cover your menu.

No badge and no watermark, on any plan
Not on the free plan, not ever. The incumbent charges to remove a “powered by” banner it added to sites that had been free for two years.

One request, and nothing from anybody else
The bar asks your own site for its headlines once and fetches nothing else: no font, no icon, no stylesheet, no tracker. The scrolling is a single CSS transform with no JavaScript running per frame.

Everything is edited in your dashboard
You never open the site editor to change a headline, and a live preview of the bar sits above the form so you can judge the height and the colours as you set them.

Moving text always stops
On hover, on a keyboard, and on its own pause button — and it never moves at all for a visitor whose device asks for less animation, who gets the same headlines standing still.

It creates no pages
A full story opens over the page you are already on, addressable by its own link. Nothing joins your menu, no pages are built, and nothing can turn into a broken link. The app is never added to a page on its own either.

Nothing is stored about a visitor
No cookie, no local storage, no identifier. On Business you can count how many times a headline was pressed: that writes one row naming only the update.

Installing & getting started
- Add News Ticker & Live Updates to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
- Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the News ticker element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Dashboard page.
- Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers one ticker with no cap on updates, all four arrangements, the height control down to a real 28-pixel ticker, links and pictures and labels on every item, times, every colour and every design control, a pause control, editing in your dashboard, and CSV export, so you can prove it works before paying.

Permissions, and why each one

What is stored, and where
- Your tickers, updates and settings are stored in collections inside your own site.
- On Business a ticker can read one RSS or Atom address you name. Only the headline, its link and its time are kept, in a cache row belonging to that ticker; your own updates are never touched by a refresh.
- If you switch press counting on (Business), the app writes one row naming only the update. No name, email, address, cookie or other visitor identifier is stored with it, and nothing is written to the visitor’s browser.
- Uninstalling removes the app’s collections. Nothing else is touched.

Questions people ask.
How many updates can I have on the free plan?
As many as you like. There is no cap on any plan — the free plan’s limit is one ticker, not a number of items in it. That is deliberate: the loudest complaint in this category is a three-item free plan.
Can I really make it as thin as a TV news ticker?
Yes. Set the height to 28 pixels in your dashboard and the bar is 28 pixels; it goes down to 20. On your published page the element is exactly as tall as the bar, so nothing is left over around it. In the editor the box around it may look taller — that is the editor’s own frame and it never reaches your live site.
Does it pull in news for me?
No, and it never will. On Business it reads one RSS or Atom address that you type in — almost always your own blog — and shows those headlines. There is no keyword search of the world’s news and nothing is ever written for you.
Does it work on Wix Studio?
Yes. It is a custom element, so it runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony — the same app, the same settings panel. It was built and verified on a published Wix Studio site.
